Ursula oder das unwerte Leben
Reni Mertens, Walter Marti, Suisse, 1966o
The title of the breakthrough work by Mertens & Marti refers to a paper published by Karl Binding and Alfred Hoche in 1920: “The approval of the destruction of unworthy life. Its measure and form”, which served as an ideological basis for the Nazi ideologues and their euthanasia programmes. Ursula Bodmer, blind and deaf and mentally handicapped, would have been exterminated according to the paper. But even in Switzerland the child had a hard time at first, because after first examinations she was denied all learning abilities. The documentary filmmakers accompany those who disagree.
