As the filmmaker begins an intimate conversation with her mother, the political fault line running through their home reveals a house and a country haunted by history. The chronicle of a family in Serbia turns into a searing portrait of an activist in times of great turmoil, questioning the responsibility of each generation to fight for their future.
Eine Tür in einem Apartment in Belgrad. Von ihr ausgehend erzählt Mila Turajlic die Geschichte ihrer Mutter Srbijanka, einer Professorin und politischen Aktivistin im Kampf gegen das Regime von Slobodan Miloševic. Bei der Enteignung durch die Kommunisten wurde die Wohnung geteilt, die Tür blieb siebzig Jahre verschlossen. Die persönlich gefärbte, klug ins Bild gesetzte Chronik jugoslawischer Geschichte lebt von ihrer starken Protagonistin und den Diskussionen zwischen Mutter und Tochter. Und am Ende wird die Tür aufgebrochen.
