Anna is nervous when she and her 14-year-old son Tomas arrive in the small, close-knit community of Igloolik in the Canadian Arctic. Anna had a brief affair with Tomas' Inuk father when she worked in Igloolik, but Tomas was born and raised in Montréal, his mother's hometown, and doesn't know much about his heritage. He is curious about his father's culture, but he is no longer around to familiarize him with it. For Tomas' mother and his Inuit family, joy at his homecoming is mixed with memories of a short and painful chapter in their shared history. Over the course of two weeks that seem to melt into one long day under the midnight sun, Anna and Tomas struggle to rebuild the family they can no longer ignore.
